Among the many reasons to avoid these never ending offers is that they do not work. While one might lose the five pounds in two days promised by the commercial, the only real guarantee is that the weight will be regained once the pills are no longer taken, or the gadget begins collecting dust and has become a clothes rack.
The Weight Loss Industry
The weight loss industry is a billion dollar money making machine but they do not have the long term answers for our weight loss woes. We try a product to lose our belly fat, and as soon as it no longer gives the desired effects, we move on to the next one, or even combine it with a new gadget. Because of the initial weight loss, we continue this yo-yo diet pill cycle, which only spurs on the weight loss industry.
Will Fad Diets Help?
Fad diets are almost always unhealthy. Diets that call for skipping meals cause the body to go into survival mode, causing the body to store fat for the next self-imposed famine. A diet that calls for less than eight hundred calories per day for an extended period can cause certain heart abnormalities, some of which are fatal. Any popular diet that calls for the complete elimination of one food nutrient, including carbohydrates and protein, is a fad diet. The body needs all types of food to maintain its functionality.
Are Diet Pills the Answer?
Taking pills, whether they are prescribed by a doctor or purchased at the drugstore, can be dangerous and even addictive. Several diet pills have been taken off the market in the last several decades once the real harm they do to the body, including life threatening side effects including death, is discovered. Some products that were used in the past for weight loss are now considered street drugs.
Why Do We Fail?
Diets fail time after time because we have been programmed to believe that the solution to weight loss can be purchased in a bottle, or the newest machine will do most of the hard work for us, or that we can otherwise achieve long term weight loss with little to no effort.
The Real Solution
The true key to long lasting weight loss is learning healthy habits concerning food choice and eating habits and then disciplining ourselves to exercise a few times every week. If changes are made slowly and wisely to our lifestyle, and we do not allow ourselves to become overwhelmed, permanent change can be achieved.
